Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis receives support in new book by eminent geologist – Graham Hancock

Something happens around 12800 years ago and that led to some big changes in our way of life.  Some people thinks that agriculture and civilization started at that time.  Maybe we had some previous civilizations but, for me, the more important question is why we started agriculture in the first place.

I do not think agriculture is an easier way of life or an easier way to get food.  When I look at fishermen, I see hunting and specially trapping is a lot easier than agriculture.

There is a point to make about the stability of food supply with agriculture.  Then again, we are starting to see the benefits of fasting in our current time.

I suspect also, that a fixed system (agriculture) is subject to variations in the environment (flood, drought, hurricanes, twisters, etc.), the same as moving systems (hunting, gathering, fishing, trapping, etc.), but the advantage of moving systems is that they can go to more stable places.

Civilization is based on trade.  In the case of modern fishermen, it is easy to see that they are trading.  Maybe it would be possible to create an entire civilization not based on agriculture.

Earth Sciences Professor Edward Keller of the University of California at Santa Barbara writes as follows: “If the hypothesis of the impact is correct (and I am very impressed with the data) it is perhaps the most important hypothesis in the Earth Sciences,…”

Non-tobacco plant identified in ancient pipe for first time

I think that smoking has been with us since we started to control fire.  When you think about it, making a fire in the wilderness, you are already “smoking” some king if vegetable.  It is not a big step to start experimenting with other herbs.  It looks like these people had good results with some other herbs.

“Until now, the use of specific smoking plant mixtures by ancient people in the American Northwest had only been speculated about. ”

Pendulum may reveal gravity’s secrets

I have been obsessed with gravity since my teenage.  It looks like another thing that we, as human, can’t wrap our head around.  We need more and more “observations” and less “theorising”.  We desperately need more ways to observe and “out of our head”, so to speak.

“The pendulum itself is not a quantum object. But it’s operating at the interface where gravity and quantum mechanics can play together.”

Popular Analyst Reveals New Bitcoin Pricing Model: Prediction Suggests ‘Bullish Run a Month Away’

Many people think that bitcoin is heading for bigger value, but on a near future, this might also be true;

““This is a new model I’m working on, it picks the start of exponential bull runs,” Woo tweeted.”

The Internet is too unsafe: We need more hackers

There is still much confusion about the term “hacker”.  I think this guy has the right view.  Hackers are human, they are not absolute black and absolute white hats.  They are all grey with different shadesm but he is right about have a Responsible Disclosure Policy.

“Not having a Responsible Disclosure Policy or retaliating against well-intentioned white hat hackers (hackers that hack for good) is like having a sign in front of your establishment saying “No Good Guys Allowed”.”

Motions in the sun reveal inner workings of sunspot cycle

We should study the sun more.  I am happy that some of us, like them,

do study it more thoroughly.  I was not aware that you could study the sun using sound waves (helioseismology) to study the sun.

At the beginning of a solar cycle, sunspots emerge at mid-latitudes. As the cycle progresses, they emerge closer and closer to the equator. To explain this “butterfly diagram,” solar physicists suspect that the deep magnetic field is carried toward the equator by a large-scale flow.

Gopherspace in the Year 2020

It is also a good tutorial on lynx.  I think lynx should come available in any “unix” distribution. The “text only” is a nice break from the “javascript” world we live in nowadays.  HTML took over the internet a while back but there are plenty of other protocols that existed and we forgot.  Gopher is one of them.  I am also thinking of usenet.

BTW, you can also use lynx as a basic file manager.  Try “lynx .” and have fun.

“One of the things you will notice about gopherspace is the speed with which you can move around in it. Gopher is faster than the rest of the Internet, because opening Gopher pages doesn’t entail downloading megabytes of Javascipt. ”

Blackballed by PayPal, Scientific-Paper Pirate Takes Bitcoin Donations

Copyright is not a good way to give money to a creator.  Alexandre Dumas became very rich and there were no copyright laws in his time.

“A quiet rebellion against copyright is being waged on a single website by a freelance coder, using cryptocurrency where PayPal won’t do. ”

You think 2020 is bad? Think again. Wait for the “real” Catastrophes to kick-in — Volcanic Eruptions, Global Cooling, Crop Loss, and Famine

I think the sun is the real boss on earth and he is in the process of taking a break, so watch out.

“The Sun is at the heart of all Earthly catastrophes, not Man and his inconsequential activities. Man plays about as much part in the grand climate cycles as ants on mound of dirt — we can shift that dirt; ravage the local environment even; completely alter our surroundings, but we have no say in the multimillennial will of the cosmos.”

Impact of meteorites led to life-giving amino acids on Earth

We are probably not the only planet to have been bombarded by meteorites, so maybe that is the universal way of creating life.  I also read somewhere that comets were the primary source of water to our planet.

““Materials needed for the start of life may have been generated over long periods, offering a chance for life to appear,” said Yoshihiro Furukawa, an associate professor of geochemistry at Tohoku University.”

How water in the deep Earth triggers earthquakes and tsunamis

I think this is interesting;

“Water (H2O) and other volatiles (e.g. CO2 and sulphur) that are cycled through the deep Earth have played a key role in the evolution of our planet, including in the formation of continents, the onset of life, the concentration of mineral resources, and the distribution of volcanoes and earthquakes. ”

Cash4Covid – How hospitals are making money off the coronavirus

How is it that we ended up with a system like this?

“Hospitals in the US are getting money for diagnosing Covid19. They get more money if those patients are then put on ventilators. It’s time we really started thinking about what that means.”

450 billion locusts have been killed this year, but devastating swarms still ravage Africa, India and the Middle East

I find this interesting;

“Massive swarms of locusts have devastated large swathes of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East since January, threatening food supplies for millions.

This year, Kenya had its worst infestation in 70 years, and India, Ethiopia, and Somalia had the worst infestations they’ve had in 25 years.

Iran to send black boxes of downed Ukrainian airliner to France

The Universe: A cosmic dashboard with no objective physical world

Reading this, I kept thinking about Alfred Korzybski’s book “Science and Sanity”. In his book, he is describing the process of abstracting in a human beings.  We can only have an image of the world around us and all representations are imperfects because we leave characteristics behind when trying to “picture” the world.

He made the famous statement that “The map is not the territory”.

I think, we can only describe the micro-world (atomic and sub-atomic) with our very limited macro view.  Because of this limitation, we are stuck with “strange” duality of wave and particles.  That is what we “know” (wave and particles).  To get an better understanding of the micro-world, we would need to get  out  of  ourselves  by using tools that are independent of our experiences . Mathematics is probably not an answer because it is only a very high abstraction of the same world we live in. We should invent a tool a little like mathematics that does not depend on our perception or view of the world.

This is the article;

“One of the weirdest theoretical implications of quantum mechanics is that different observers can give different — though equally valid — accounts of the same sequence of events. As highlighted by physicist Carlo Rovelli in his relational quantum mechanics (RQM), this means that there should be no absolute, observer-independent physical quantities.

Health Effects of Coffee: Mechanism Unraveled?

The world’s first astronomical site was built in Africa and is older than Stonehenge

I find this interesting;

“When the Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project was launched in 2017, only 6% of the global ocean bottom had been surveyed to what might be called modern standards.

That number now stands at 19%, up from 15% in just the last year. ”

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., on coming COVID vaccines

L’escroquerie de la prétendue « fraude au nom légal »
