I certainly will not take a vaccine from Bill Gates, but maybe I would consider a vaccine from Russia. They seem to really have worked on the immunity side and not on “the control of the population” side.

I like the idea of Universal Basic Income because it goes well with my view about the importance of jobs and automation in general. We already have a good chunk of the population that can’t be productive in the modern world because they do not have the proper skills. We need to support them anyway. We can’t stop automation as it is a natural tendency of mankind to create ways to simplify our lives. At one point, all the trivial tasks will be handled by automation. The labor forces will not be needed for basic work. At that point, one has a choice between learning and creating or just exist and enjoy the various access to the dopamine until you die. I do not think that this course of events is stoppable by anyone and I do not see any real problems in reaching that point.

Everybody is talking about jobs and how important it is. I do not think so. I feel that we are being indoctrinated into thinking about the importance of jobs. We should be focusing more on creating something than ‘getting a job’. We are on the right track, more and more people are embarking on the “creator’s economy”. The internet helps a lot with that.

This illustrates the need for non-intervention. A way of life that ancient Native Americans and most nomads/hunter-gatherer cultures adhere to. Non-intervention is a philosophy deeper than mere libertarianism. It goes as far as do not disturb nature, in other words, do not farm. Farming is a great source of problems of all sorts. The minute we pout our grain of salts in nature, we disturb it and are doing something wrong.

I remember reading DeBrogli’s thesis when I was younger. In that time, he never thought that his wave function was a probabilistic one. He changed his mind and then back again to a real wave function later in his life. I do not buy the probability function either. It is explaining a few things but it is also putting a break on real advances. I like OpenStreetMap. I think theirs maps are prettier. The response time is quick and the details are amazing. They do not have satellite view and “Street View” but for real mapping usage they are great.
They have the best rendering of rivers in my view (with the Transport Map).
There is also a OpenSeaMap that is getting very good. It is more popular in Europe than North America.

What I found the most frustrating about this whole COVID thing is that some government got between us and our physicians by banning the use of this hydrochloroquine. The pretext was that if we start using it for COVID, patients that really needs it for other diseases would miss it. That is absurd. That thing cost almost nothing to produce and if you can afford to pay everybody some money to “stay at home”, you can certainly afford to boost production on that stuff. If it does not cost much it should not be very difficult to make. There is no proof that it is working. Come on!! For a while it was the only thing that had a CHANCE of working. If I am dying I will take that chance, specially if my doctor can prescribe it to me legally.
That is the real problem with socializing medical care, doctors are no more in control. The same when you let a group of insurance company control medical care.

I will generally use exiting code to complete a task. I am able to create new code but I am also very good at understanding existing code. With the years, I find that using existing code is very often the best economical (read least effort) way to go. I have also used whole systems of software to accomplish something it was never designed to do. With success. It is just a matter of how you look at things. I you can picture the stock market as general store, you might be able to use a sophisticate inventory replenishment system to pick up what stock to buy and what to “put on sale”.
Lately I have been using a trick I call “encapsulating”.
Say I am frustrated with a program like “vlc” that is not doing what I want. Instead of trying to change the source code and spending multiple hours of study, I would just call it from a script (or even another program) and then I can do whatever I want before and after that program (again, say “vlc”) executes.
It is working 90% of the time currently. In other words, with very little work, I am able to get what I want.
This guy is saying that deciding to rewrite from scratch is the worst idea.

I am not a fan of drug dealers but I would never use an encryption scheme that is in the hand of a single entity. Open source systems and fully distributed peer to peer systems (a la tor or bitcoin) are best for me.
I use pgp whenever I can. It is not easy to use and I think it is not widely available because some entities are putting the brakes on a general acceptance. That alone is a good reason to trust it. The problem is always in the implementation and the underlying support structure. The more sensitive your needs are, the more investigation you need to put into these underlying support structure.
BTW, if I was an Encrochat associate, I would lay low for a while… hehe!
